Whether you’re visiting for a day or planning a longer stay, here’s our round-up of the best things to see and do in Cleveleys. It’s a welcoming seaside town on Lancashire’s Fylde Coast.
Known for its relaxed pace, modern seafront, and beautiful, sweeping coastal views across the Irish Sea. Less busy than nearby Blackpool but perfectly placed for exploring the wider area, Cleveleys is ideal for anyone looking for fresh sea air, a spot of shopping, scenic walks, and traditional coastal charm.
Best Things to See and Do in Cleveleys
Whether you’re planning a day trip, a weekend break, or a longer stay, there are plenty of things to see and do for all the family.
Walk Along the Award-Winning Cleveleys Promenade
Cleveleys promenade and seafront is one of the town’s standout, top attractions. Fully redeveloped in recent years, it features wide, level walkways, striking coastal defences, and public seating areas designed for comfort and accessibility. The attractive hard landscaping doubles as public art installations. The wide, level walkways of the promenade are perfect for walking, cycling, or wheelchair users, with uninterrupted views across the sea. On clear days, you can enjoy panoramic views over the Irish Sea, stretching from the Lake District to North Wales.

Cleveleys seafront is perfect for a peaceful walk at sunset or a refreshing morning by the sea. Why not add a coffee break to your walk – pop in one of many cafes in the town centre, or stop for a drink (alcoholic or otherwise!) at The Venue on the seafront.
Spend Time on Cleveleys Beach
Cleveleys beach offers a quieter, more relaxed alternative to busier seaside resorts. A quieter alternative to nearby Blackpool, it’s ideal for families and visitors looking for a more laid-back seaside experience. At low tide, the expansive sandy shoreline stretches far out, making it ideal for long walks, family beach games, sandcastles and dog walking. Explore the rock pools, recently created with the addition of beach management groynes – what can you find there?

The beach is popular year-round, particularly peaceful during spring and autumn. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the Fylde Coast. Just be careful about the incoming tide – don’t get cut-off on a sandbank and keep safe on the beach.
Dog walkers will also appreciate the long, open stretches. Rossall Beach is a dog-friendly beach year round, and dogs are welcome on the main amenity beach against the steps outside peak summer months.
Explore the Coastal Art Trail
A unique highlight of Cleveleys is the Mythic Coast art trail. The story of the Sea Swallow is brought to life with sculptures and installations integrated into the promenade. These artworks reflect the area’s maritime history, local legends, and natural environment.

Did you know? You can buy your own copy of the Sea Swallow book from the Care for Cleveleys Shop, along with your own mini Ogre!
As you walk along the seafront, you’ll encounter creative features that add interest and character, making the promenade more than just a scenic route.
Look out for the Shipwreck Memorial, the tall and graceful Sea Swallow and the huge Ogres Paddle. Plus of course the Ogre himself, hiding among the rocks. These sculptures all make great photo opportunities, but probably the most photographed is a unique highlight of Cleveleys…
Discover Mary’s Shell
One of Cleveleys’ most distinctive landmarks and unique highlights is Mary’s Shell, a large sculptural artwork inspired by local folklore. According to legend, a giant shell washed ashore carrying a message of hope for coastal communities.

Today, the sculpture has become a popular photo spot and an iconic symbol of Cleveleys’ connection to the sea. It’s part of the wider coastal Mythic Art trail along the promenade, adding character and interest to your walk. Climb inside it, listen to the sounds of the wind and sea, see how it gets engulfed by the sea.
Enjoy Shopping in Cleveleys Town Centre
Cleveleys town centre, the area around Victoria Road, offers a mix of familiar high-street brands and independent shops. You can browse clothing stores, gift shops, and local businesses before stopping for refreshments. Unlike in many other places, there’s a mixture of almost all kinds of stores in Cleveleys. With everything from homewares to herbalists and shoe shops. There’s also an excellent assortment of good quality charity shops too – with all kinds of treasures to be had.

The compact layout makes it easy to explore on foot – walk down one side of the street and back along the other. It’s nice and flat and there’s plenty of seats and benches so you can sit awhile, take in the view and chat with a stranger.
The friendly atmosphere reflects the town’s community feel, thanks to the amazing Care for Cleveleys group. They are the ones who look after the town centre – planting, weeding and keeping it clean. They organise events and install Christmas lights. Don’t forget to visit their community shop for an amazing range of gifts and pre-loved items. All proceeds go towards improving the town.
Eat Out at Local Cafés and Restaurants
Food lovers will find plenty of dining options in Cleveleys. From traditional fish and chip shops to modern cafés and family-friendly or real-ale pubs, there’s something for every taste. Many cafés are off the main street, most with outdoor seating which is perfect on nice days. They’re ideal spots for a relaxed breakfast, lunchtime snack or afternoon coffee. Whether you’re after a quick bite or a sit-down meal, Cleveleys delivers classic seaside dining done well.

Ride the Blackpool Tramway
Cleveleys is on the route of the famous Blackpool Tramway, before the northern terminus at Fleetwood. A ride along the coast on a tram is one of the best ways of exploring without a car. A tram ride from Cleveleys takes you south through Bispham and into Blackpool, or north towards Fleetwood.

The journey itself is enjoyable and scenic, offering uninterrupted views of the coastline and easy access to nearby attractions. Buy your ticket onboard or via the Blackpool Transport app.
Enjoy the Amusements, Attractions and Events
There’s plenty to keep the family occupied at Cleveleys, with something for most ages. For a start, no day out at the seaside is complete without a visit to the amusements! There’s three amusement centres here in Cleveleys. The seafront Olympia (below) and Treasure Island near the promenade – both of which have a mixture of family friendly games. Leisuretime Casino (in the centre of town) is a slot machine emporium for adults.

At the seafront Jubilee Leisure Park there’s the Vue Cinema – open all year round with showings of your favourites and the latest releases. Nearby there’s the skate park and playgrounds at Jubilee Gardens. Complete with a MUGA and playground equipment for all ages of children.
Don’t forget to bookmark your favourites in the growing events calendar too. There’s the huge annual Cleveleys Car Show held each June. Plus plenty of events and activities at Princess Road events space, organised by Care for Cleveleys.
Enjoy Coastal Walks and Cycling Routes
Cleveleys is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. The flat promenade and surrounding coastal paths are perfect for walking and cycling, with routes suitable for all fitness levels. Whether you’re looking for a gentle stroll or a longer coastal walk, Cleveleys offers plenty of opportunities to stay active while enjoying sea views.
Use Cleveleys as a Base to Explore the Fylde Coast
One of the best things about Cleveleys is its location. It’s close enough to Blackpool’s major attractions, such as the Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Tower, while offering a quieter place to relax at the end of the day. Just a short tram or car journey in the other direction, Fleetwood offers additional attractions such as Affinity Lancashire Shopping Outlet, Fleetwood Museum and historic architecture. It’s an easy half-day trip from Cleveleys and provides insight into the area’s fishing heritage and maritime past. The Lancashire countryside is also within easy reach, making Cleveleys an excellent base for exploring both coast and countryside.
Why Cleveleys Is Worth Visiting
Cleveleys combines modern seaside facilities with a peaceful atmosphere. It’s got everything to appeal to couples, families, and solo travellers alike. With its regenerated promenade, spacious beach, public art, and excellent transport links, the town offers a refreshing coastal experience all year round.
