Christmas Lights and Decorations in Cleveleys

Decorating Cleveleys at Christmas is notoriously difficult for one reason and another, hence why it’s not been especially festive in past years. However, in 2019 that all started to change when the local community came together to work hard together to change it! We put on our thinking caps on, joined forces and went on a mission to make Cleveleys Christmassy.

2019 – When the Community reclaimed Christmas!

Christmas Cheer in Cleveleys, the Association of Traders and the Coastal Community Team worked together, asking churches, schools, community groups, retailers and individuals to join in! In 2019 Christmas in Cleveleys was reclaimed! Reclaimed by the community that lives, works, learns and visits here – and reclaimed as in environmentally friendly!

  • Christmas Cheer in Cleveleys fundraised – to put lights in the planters and subsidise some little Christmas trees above the shops
  • The Association of Traders held a Snowman competition
  • The Coastal Community Team (precursor to Care for Cleveleys) made recycled decorations to trim up the town
  • North Fylde Rotary Club hosted a Santa collection in the town centre in December

Trimming up the Town

For the first time we made our own decorations by re-using and re-purposing the things that we find, Wombles style… People made decorations at home and at a community making day. Take a look at what the people of Cleveleys did in 2019

Snowman Competition

Cleveleys Association of Traders organised a recycled Snowman Competition. The best Snowman, as voted by the public won the annual trophy to display in their shop. Here are some that our town centre shops have made in previous years –

2022 – Gearing up a Notch!

Fast forward a few years to the end of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Care for Cleveleys Team is getting into full swing!

Festoon lights had been on the towns wish list for a long time – and at Christmas 2022 the first part of the wish was finally granted. Find out more about the long-running work to get festoon lights into Cleveleys town centre. They might not have looked much to many towns standards, but marked a huge step forwards in spreading festive cheer through the town.

2023 – Christmas Lights are Spreading!

The new Christmas Lights for 2023 marked another step forward in spreading Christmas Cheer and brightening up the town for the festive season. The new infrastructure will also allow seasonal decorations to be installed throughout the year too.

New Christmas lights in 2023 included festoon lights at the two alleys from Victoria Road West to Aldi/Rough Lea Road car park. New lights at the green canopy over New Look/Superdrug and a new maypole-look for the clock garden.

2025 – Consolidation – and More Lights!

In 2025 Care for Cleveleys took over organisation of the towns Christmas lights, buying services and products in from different suppliers. It’s an opportunity to take stock over what we’ve got in the way of equipment, repairing anything as necessary. Some lighting sets have been replaced, others renewed and some new features added.

Most notably, for Christmas 2025 the festoon lights on the lighting columns have been completed from the Coffee Bar to Claytons Jewellers. It’s all looking fabulously festive!

Elsewhere in the Area…

Christmas Lights and a Switch On event are generally organised in nearby Thornton. (Although there wasn’t any activity in 2025 as previous organisers retired).

And there’s usually been a Christmas tree and Switch On event at Marsh Mill
