Thornton Library is Open Again!
In the autumn of 2016, Lancashire County Council conducted a spending review. As a result, Thornton Library, like many others, closed.
We called in to Thornton Library the week before it closed, to say thank you and good luck to the staff and to take some photos.

However, Thornton Library didn’t end there! A campaign launched to try and keep it open. We were pleased to report that, after various twists and turns, the doors are now open once again.
On Monday 26 February 2018 another opening event was held, and this library has been open ever since!
History of the Library
This library was opened in 1938 by Sir Percy Meadon, Director of Education for Lancashire.
It replaced a library in premises on Fleetwood Road North, which are now used by the social services.
