John Hodgkinson, Mayor of Wyre

The new Mayor and Mayoress of Wyre and their deputies were appointed at Wyre Council’s annual meeting.

Councillor John Hodgkinson, who represents Jubilee ward in Cleveleys, will serve as Wyre’s first citizen for the next 12 months.

John was sworn in during an official Mayor Making ceremony, where he was described as “straightforward, honest, easy to get on with and a councillor who has made a major contribution to life in the district.”

Councillor Hodgkinson has served on the council since 1999. He was formerly a joiner by trade and was born and brought up in Castleton near Rochdale.

His interests include music, walking and dancing and he celebrates his twenty fifth wedding anniversary this year, with his wife, Linda, who will be his Mayoress for the year.

Supporting him in his duties are Deputy Mayor Julia Anderson, member for Staina ward in Thornton, and her consort, husband Phillip.

John has been a keen supporter of community life in Cleveleys, helping many groups including Rossall Beach Residents & Community Group, and the people of Cleveleys wish him well for this exciting year.

The Mayors charities that John has chosen for the coming year are Macmillan Cancer Relief and Hearts of Gold, part of the Blue Skies Hospital Fund, raising money for the Lancashire Cardiac Centre based at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
