Tram Works - Road Closures, News & Exhibition

Added 19 December 2010

A full programme of road closures is in place on the side roads off Cleveleys town centre, to facilitate the works to replace the tram lines in preparation for the new bombardier trams which come on stream in the future.

A scale model showing what the 16 new trams will look like is now on display at the Solaris Centre at South Shore, Blackpool.

The first tram is to be delivered in June 2011 for training, testing and commissioning and the rest of the fleet will follow, with the last tram being delivered in february 2012 for the service to start in Easter that year.

Each supertram will be 32.5m long with 70 seats and more room for standing.

The full tramway upgrade is costing £100m and the trams themselves take up £33m of the budget, the trams are currently being built in the factories in Germany and Austria.

The attached document shows the latest news regarding the road closures currently in effect at Cleveleys, Rossall and Fleetwood.
