Sea Defence Repairs at Rossall
Added 5 May 2010
The next phase of the sea defences which will be re-built are the stretch from Rossall Hospital through to the golf course at Fleetwood - because they are in most need and nearing the end of their useful life.
The section north of the cafe and up to the Hospital are then next on the list, so that will probably put them in line for replacing in about 10 years or so (subject of course to the money being available from the Government!). Not to worry though meanwhile, this section isn't considered to be at any risk of flooding and is very stable - for now!
The area of sea wall around the tank traps near Rossall School gets a severe battering on a regular basis, and there is an ongoing programme of repair to keep it in good order. You'll see that every so often the most damaged parts are broken away and new concrete put in place to stabilise the defences and make them strong enough to last.
In the last week or so another patch of repair is being carried out, as you can see from this photo.
