Planting on Rossall Prom
Added 17 May 2010

If you have been following the Visit Cleveleys Facebook page you'll know that Rossall Beach Residents Association have been working for a long while on a planting island against the sea-wall at the end of Thornton Gate.
Originally the planter was built in response to speeding problems along the promenade, and in chicken-and-egg style, it led to the building of a planter to make the island more obvious, and then the community got their hands on it and adopted it!
There were just enough concrete blocks left over from the sea defence works to build the shape, which was back filled with soil. The first phase of planting took place a couple of weeks ago and the residents donated hardy plants out of their own gardens to create an evergreen structure, and some windbreaks were created from leftover planks, again from the sea defence works!

Meanwhile, fund raising has been going on in earnest so that more plants could be bought, and along with some kindly given by the council nursery the planting could be completed. All that's needed now is a plaque on the front welcoming you to Rossall Beach, and an opening ceremony to mark the occasion!
Rossall Beach Residents are very active on the northern end of Cleveleys seafront and have worked tirelessly with the local authorities to improve the area and clean it up. You can find out more about their work on their own website www.rossallbeach.org.uk
