TRAMWAY UPGRADE WORKS - MAJOR CHANGES!
HIGHWAY CLOSURES – FEBRUARY 2011 ONWARDS
Major changes are due to take place to the current highway closures in Lancashire across the Tramway.
In Mid February many of the existing highway closures will be completed – with new closures commencing at nearby junctions. The closures are being carried out to upgrade the tramway in preparation for major transformation of the Blackpool to Fleetwood Tramway.
Key changes :
By concentrating on closures over the current winter period it is hoped that the worst of the disruption to drivers and passengers will be over prior to the main summer season.
The current highway closures to north end of Fleetwood Town Centre – including both North Albert Street and the Esplanade - are due to be reopened to through traffic by March.

CLEVELEYS
Westmoreland Avenue Carriageway to be closed across tramtracks from late February for 3 weeks.
Cumberland Avenue Carriageway across tramtrack closed until early March.
West Drive Further closure proposed on completion of Cumberland Avenue.
York Avenue Current closure due to complete by mid February.
Victoria Square Tramway to be upgraded through Victoria Square commencing mid February through to late April. Traffic will not be able to travel across tram tracks. Westbound traffic will be diverted via Crescent East and Crescent West, with traffic turning across tramway at Lauderdale Avenue. Traffic which currently turns right from Crescent West into Victoria Road West will be diverted to cross tramway at York Avenue ( ie : north end of tram stops at Victoria Square ). Traffic travelling north & south through Victoria Square will not be diverted – although there will be lane restrictions whilst works take place. Pedestrians will cross tramtracks to north of Victoria Square ( between Brighton Avenue & Rossall Road ).
FLEETWOOD
Esplanade & Pharos Street Carriageway remains closed - works currently due to continue until mid March. North Albert Street Carriageway remains closed – carriageway due to reopen to through traffic by end of February. Construction of the tram stops and pelican crossing ( near library ) continues through into March. Fishermans Walk – Lofthouse Way Lofthouse Way – across tramtracks into Elm Street - closed until mid March. Local diversions signed via Poulton Street or Copse Road. Radcliffe Road Radcliffe Road / Copse Road tram crossing ( Near Stanley Road ), Carriageway across tramtracks to be closed to upgrade tramway for approximately two months. These works will commence once works to tram crossing at Lofthouse Way have been completed. Date to be confirmed – but works not likely to commence prior to mid March. Larkholme Avenue Carriageway across tram track due to close from mid February ( ie : on completion of current closure at Broadwater ) Broadwater Fleetwood Road Tram Crossing due to reopen to traffic from mid February. There will be associated highway works carried out under temporary traffic lights. ROSSALL South Strand Carriageway closure across tramtrack due to start mid February . These works will commence once works to tram crossing at Rossall Lane have been completed. Temporary traffic diversion via Rossall Lane. Rossall Lane Current closure due to reopen mid February.
ANCHORSHOLME ( Blackpool Borough Council ) Anchorsholme Lane Anchorsholme Lane will be closed to traffic crossing tramtrack for approximately two months, commencing mid February ( i.e : on completion of works at Fleetwood Road ). Fleetwood Road. Current closure due to complete by mid February. Cleveleys / Anchorsholme area : From mid February traffic will be able to travel along full length of A587 both northbound & southbound. The existing temporary diversion for southbound traffic via West Drive will no longer apply.
