The planning committee has given the approval to build a 'local centre' on land off Fleetwood Road North.

This will give the local community access for all to jobs, health, education, shops, leisure and community facilities, open space, sport and recreation by ensuring that this new development is located where it can be accessed by a variety of modes of transport.

Outline planning permission for the scheme, which will create hundreds of jobs, was granted unanimously by Wyre Borough Councillors’.

The application will now have to go before the Government Office North West for its final approval.

The project will mean Thornton Football Club will move from its current home and a condition of the planning permission was for the developers to help the Club to relocate.

NPL will also have to contribute £33,774 towards the provision of flood defenses.

The move has been hailed a massive boost to the area.

Simon Towers advised that “NPL are keen to create an area to live, work and play in Thornton and this is just the beginning”.

"We are really pleased this plan has got the go-ahead, its great news."
