Follow the Seawall

Updated 28 December 2010

Cleveleys has been fortunate enough to enjoy an enormous Capital programme in recent years which has seen the re-build of most of the towns sea defences, from The Venue through to the boundary with Blackpool at Kingsway.

The re-build of the sea defences at Cleveleys was documented through a website maintained by Wyre Borough Council and you can look back through hundreds of photos and find out much more about this civil engineering project at this link.

The next section of the defences which is planned for renewal is the stretch from Rossall Hospital at Fairway, Fleetwood, through to Fleetwood Golf Course, at a cost of around £60-70 million.

The first stages of consultation were started at Christmas last year with an exhibition that toured Cleveleys and Fleetwood to canvas opinion as to what the general public would like to see included in the scheme.

The project has been delayed slightly due to the recent Comprehensive Spending Review, but work is hoped to start in the next couple of years and will take about 4-5 years to complete.

You can find out more at this link to the Wyre Borough Council project website.
