Fishing for a winner!Added 10 October 2010
The northern end of the beach at Cleveleys is home to a number of water sports/passtimes, call them what you will.
There are regular visitors from all over the north west to kite surf, fly land kites, fish from the shore and in boats - along with the legions of people who just like the place.
A fishing competition was at Cleveleys yesterday, with some highly talented anglers among them, including George Smith from Grimsby who is the England International.

Trevor from Milrow likes sea angling at Cleveleys, so much so that he's had his eye on moving here, or so he tells his wife everytime he's been! He enjoys matches here and is appreciative of the sea front parking and the clean beach, thanks to Rossall Beach Residents Association.

Around 50/60 anglers were out yesterday, from the beach at North Promenade right round to Rossall Point, catching mostly dogfish and whiting, although it's also the season for codling and flounder. This is a catch and release competition where fish are simply measured and put back into the sea.
Trevor was also keen to point out that the majority of fishermen have respect for the environment and do their best not to lose weights, floats and line, and to leave the beach as they found it - which is the experience of the locals.
This competition provides Penn Points for successful anglers which can be included in the National Penn League with the winner of the most points standing to win a big prize.
