Cleveleys underwater....
Added 1 June 2010

On Cleveleys beach if you go out to low water you'll often see what you could be forgiven for thinking are slimy lumps of mud or clay. Depending on what the tide has been doing and how much sand has been deposited what you can see varies from a few bits to quite a long stretch.
What you can see are actually petrified tree stumps from a time when the coast line at Cleveleys was much further out and trees covered the area.
It now provides a rich home for the wildlife that feed on it when the tide goes out, and a piece of the distant past that walkers on the beach can see at first hand. |
